coccidia

i have found out today that Isadora and Duncan have a real nasty bug. they tested for roundworm and coccidia. this means that Frankie and Gianni have been exposed to it if they do not have it already since they come from the same colony. i have been told to bleach everything they come into contact with since they are playing in the room that contains the loom this is going to be fun. currently i have Frankie, Gianni, and Isadora in their cages - no they are not happy - and Duncan is being elusive. i think i tricked him into taking the round worm de-wormer i put it into a pill pocket and set it down on the floor he quickly started to play with the treats now if he eats them that would be great.

right now i am sitting in a coffee shop since my home Internet is not working. so when i get back home i will try again to catch Duncan and get his first round of meds down him, he might be hungry by then.

a short update

Frankie and Gianni are still thin but eating i need to get more fluid down them next step is sub-q. i am letting them out of their cage for exercise. so the are out tormenting Isadora who also is out and not coming back to her cage. funny she was so sweet in the cage and so shy outside of it.

Luckily Ma Mere was not pregnant, but she is lactating. so it is a kitten hunt. I know there was one more from the Dandelion litter that i had caught so i may have another Helios to trap. i don't think there was enough time for her to have dropped another litter but it could have happened.

so kitten hunt and spay vouchers are next on the agenda

Ma Mere

last night i finally caught Ma Mere.
she is pissed, spitting, and slapping the trap.
the bait used was lightly boiled chicken shredded and daubed with karo syrup.
i tried probing her belly through the cage and i think she is pregnant her nipples are distended but not enlarged.

she is a very pretty girl and if i remember correctly she showed up years ago as a young mommy that was following her brother i saw her only a couple of times and had attempted to trap then. i stopped when i found out she belonged to someone in the neighborhood. i did tell them that they could get a free or low cost spay. 'it is the daughters cat and should be "her" choice' and 'the kittens are so cute'
the brother would show up on my porch torn up from fights, sick with huge abscesses i would call the people to let them know he was at my house and needed to go to the vet he was in a bad way. i finally gave up and took him to the shelter where he was put down having FIV which if he had been keep inside and neutered would not have been a death sentence. i still cry when i think of the boy i called Sage.

since she is eating here now i believe that her 'people' have finally moved and left her behind. since she is bringing her babies to my house she had to have had them outside and with the stormy season coming any kittens would be doomed

i called everyone i could think of last night got the numbers of where to get the vouchers and have since been going crazy with 'all circuits are busy please try again latter.
i give thanks to God that Barb got back to me today to let me know she got an appointment for the spay.

i know God is laughing

the irony of it.
the day i gave up Dandelion and Helios i caught another Siamese kitten.

i am calling him Frankie, from his size he is about 8 weeks old and has been starving. his teeth make me think older.
the next night i caught his brother Gianni, also a starving kitten. Gianni is a full furred spotty tabby kitten he feels like a chinchilla. i will post pictures when i get a good one of him. he is the stronger of the two. he was being guarded by MiniFig so i believe they are Belly's babies. there is at least 1 more kitten to catch and of course Ma Mere and her other baby.
I am very worried about these two and took them to work with me to keep an eye on them. as i pulled into the parking lot one or both threw up. i got to see what was in their bellies and could understand why they were not eating for me, the main contents of the stomache was twigs and candy wrappers. i got some electrolytes down them and finally they ate slivers of chicken and steamed liver. i also weighed them Frankie weighed in at 1.75lbs and Gianni 2 lbs.

as for the other feral kittens. Growler is now being called Duncan and his sister Isadora. they are turning into sweet kitties that are about 5 months old and need to be spayed. i want to find them homes i do not want them going back to the street.
i saw Buttercup last night he was 3 houses down i wish he would come in. Mikael is hanging around more also coming in sometime i will catch him on my bed, he is so beautiful. he comes to play with the crew when robber finally gets me up to play Da Bird with them.

prison break and good bye

today i said good bye to Helios and Dandelion, they have gone on to either adoption or further foster until a home is found for Dandelion, i would rather the two stay together, but i can also understand.
The lady who is taking on Helios is paying the bills for both kittens covering vacc. worm and spay/neuter and testing which adds up, she also has a dog going through chemo.
i will miss the two i was getting very attatched

wash day

today Isadora got her first bath. as i was able to hold her without to much struggle and was sickened by the scabs on her back the poor girl got to get wet.

as you can see here as the water hit her it turned red with blood. i tried to get my camera faster to truly show how bloody the fleas had made her but the dilute still shows.
i always get sad when i bathe them, they don't know why they are being immersed in water but they always feel better after. they seem to really enjoy being dried with the towel it must remind them of their mothers tongue

its raining its pouring Kinji is snoring

i am totally in love with this storm we get so few of them. the majority of the cats are inside. finally got Moira in, found her soaking in the greenhouse. Mikael is not ready to come in yet at least he is staying out of the rain for the most part. Lu is under my bed, Dash is in his closet,Robber is cuddled on my bed, and Oliver is in Robber's tent. My Isolde is on her heat pad. and of course my Kinji is snoring not that far from me.

This is a perfect day for knitting and i probable would be if i was not worrying about the streets.

i am glad i have caught some of the kittens before the storm, Billy Duncan aka Growler is done with his meds in time for me to catch his sister Isadora. who yes has a snotty nose. there are still at least 2 more kittens that i have seen and Ma Mere to catch. i hope they will enter the traps soon, this is a bad time for street cats. and i hate to think what will happen to Ma Mere's litter if she has this one on the street winter kittens do not fare well.

one more kitten

What a morning, i got up and found/unearthed a cage to put growler into, i cannot stand keeping them in traps. so since i had an old chinchilla/rabbit cage that i was getting ready to toss, i instead cleaned it up and used a lot of duct tape to secure it. then i had the joy of getting him out of the trap watching for where he ran to hide and caught him up in a towel. since i had the opportunity i clipped nails and gave him his antibiotics straight. he is looking good as soon as i put him in his new home he went immediately for the food dish. then to remind me he is a bad-ass he commenced with his meow growl again laced with hisses.

I want to be able to let Helios and Dandylion play in the room but i cannot until they are all done with their meds.

when i got home from work i saw Ma Mere, so i set the trap for her and guess what i got another kitten which looks exactly like Growler. probably a sibling as they look the same age. so now i need to set up another cage this one unfortunately will be outside it a good thing we are having mild weather and that this kitten is used to it. if i can socialize these hopefully i can adopt them out and not have to release them to the colony. i live way to close to a freeway with a very busy intersection.

and it never ends

i have been wondering where Ma Mere has been...
i have her babies and i do want to catch this trap savvy feline.
well she showed up tonight hungry, her belly is starting to bulge and my larger trap is in use as an incubator.
...........i really do need to invest in more traps and the two squirrel traps i have borrowed are now too small for the street kittens. they are set and waiting but i doubt i will catch the current babies that are at least 3 months old now...............
This little Siamese girl is reminding me of Bettie it took over a year to finally catch her and get her spayed she had 2 litters of which i still have some as stated in earlier posts.

So i set out food to keep her coming by and i made up some milk for all the street kitties to sip and that i hope to catch.

i look around to see the house meows sleeping on my bed with their gentle snores.
i watch as Oliver antagonizes Mikael and Kinji, i really do need to find him a new home he is such a love. it is getting cold around here and the kitties are letting me know, wanting to be in the few heated rooms as night falls. and patiently waiting for me to wake up so i will play with them making the Da Bird fly high for them to chase and stalk.

i don't think i can walk away from these cats now that i have started down this path, i do not have the funds to do this on my own but i have help. and one day i will get the sanctuary started and i will take as many of these cats as i can to it so they are no longer car fodder or chased by the dogs that roam the streets.
i wonder how many of the kittens are female and will continue the cycle if they are not caught and manage to survive.
off to check the trap and get some sleep

Sad news

I heard that Lil Mz Belly was killed yesterday. her chip # matched the cat found in the street. i also found a siamese kitten, also HBC. the kitten probably was MiniFig's as Belly's babies would only be about 12 wks old now.

i have potential interest in Ma Mere's babies i will miss Dandelion she is so adorable. such a little princess wanting to be hand fed whil lounging in the hammock. her eyes get more gold every day.

a new boy

This little boy is doing much better after spending a full day in a make-shift incubator. he is enjoying the steam and lays in the fullest part of it. of course he is in my only large trap right now which limits further trapping. i still have the two squirrel traps but where to put these new kittens.

i have not seen the kittens since the high winds we had a few nights back, nor have i seen Ma Mere i know that we have lost at least one kitten to a car. she was found in the road this morning, she was probably 5 months old and a pretty Siamese most likely Mysts sister. I have not seen Ma Mere since i caught Helios so she is probably laying low as she does not need as much food and the others are getting more aggressive in their needs.
as to Ma Mere's two kittens Helios was allowed to roam in the room so he was trying to see how many hiding spots he could find that i would not find him in, and Dandylion is turning into a little princess she does not leave the hammock and loves to be fed by hand and get her belly rubbed.

a day at the beach

today was a day with my Moi, she is so sweet just the best of all temperaments. i don't think i could ever part with her. this little girl was born in my bird room after i caught her mother Bettie. i had been trying to get her spayed and had caught her again but she looked like the babies were already born. they had just shifted in readiness so while i was searching the litter was born on March 7 07, her sister Kathleen was adopted her brother Patrick disappeared.

Today we went to the beach. it was a lovely day not very windy the surf was gorgeous. Best of all not to many people and no dogs.

Today also starts the costume contest for the Black Cat lovers group on Ravelry so of course i had to enter my Moira

Moira as a Sea Kitten. I think she makes a rather tasty mermaid
